Engr. Rodrigo C. Acosta, a Pillar of the Filipino Community in Bahrain, Passed Away at 82.

Engineer Rodrigo Corpuz Acosta, a distinguished founding member of the Philippine School Bahrain and its Chairman of the Board of Directors from 1994 to 2019, passed away on April 15, 2024, in Bahrain at the age of 82. A revered figure, Engineer Acosta was a Mapúa University alumnus and ranked eighth in the Philippines’ Civil Engineering licensure examination. His career spanned several countries, contributing significantly as an early Overseas Filipino Worker before his long-standing service in Bahrain’s Ministry of Works.

His leadership extended beyond professional realms; he was a multi-term President of the Filipino Club and a recipient of the “Banaag” Philippine Presidential Award in 2014 for his invaluable contributions to the Filipino community in Bahrain. A devout Catholic, Engineer Acosta also played a pivotal role in the construction of the Cathedral of Our Lady of Arabia.

He is survived by his sons, Mark Johnson and Walter Salomon with his wife Wilma and son Bruce Wayne. Engineer Acosta was predeceased by his wife, Dr. Encarnacion Hufana-Acosta.

His legacy continues to resonate within the community he served, and his contributions will be honored as his remains are repatriated to the Philippines, accompanied by his son Walter, on May 4.
